BBC Children’s has hired Kate Morton as its new head of commissioning and acquisitions for the zero to six audience. Morton is currently wrapping things up as content strategy director of family brands at Entertainment One, and will start at the Beeb towards the end of the summer.

In her new role, Morton will head all BBC programming for preschoolers, including commissions and acquisitions from both in-house production teams and independent producers. She’ll be responsible for delivering “outstanding” content, products and onscreen talent across all of the pubcaster’s platforms, according to a BBC press release.

Morton will report to BBC Children’s and Education director Patricia Hidalgo, who started in her role last year. BBC Children’s has gone through several staffing changes since, including the departure of Cheryl Taylor as head of content, and Sarah Muller‘s move from head of acquisitions and animation to head of commissioning and acquisitions for seven to 12s.

For the past two years, Morton has overseen eOne brands such as Peppa Pig, PJ Masks and Ricky Zoom. Prior to that, she spent 12 years at Disney, where she managed programming, acquisitions and creative strategy for Disney Junior and Disney Channels (linear and on-demand) as executive director of programming for Central & Eastern Europe, South Africa and Middle East.
