Nickelodeon has put three new movies into production, tapping into sports, YA fantasy and the Blue’s Clues franchise.

To kick things off, Nick and Awesomeness Films are planning to start production on an original live-action feature film called Fantasy Football in early 2022. The pic will be executive produced by The SpringHill Company (Space Jam: A New Legacy)—which is owned by LeBron James and Maverick Carter—in partnership with Marsai Martin and Joshua Martin from Genius Entertainment (Disney Channel’s Saturday Nights).

Zoe Marshall (Charmed) is writing the screenplay based on an original script from Richard Jones, Jeremy Loethen and Tim Ogletree about a 15-year-old who can control her professional football player dad on the field through a video game. Spencer Beighley and Jamal Henderson from Springhill and Genius Entertainment’s Carol Martin will serve as executive producers on the project.

Nick and Awesomeness are also teaming up with BCDF Pictures and Entertainment 360 to produce Hush Hush, a film adaptation of the New York Times bestselling YA novels by Becca Fitzpatrick. The live-action movie will follow a 16-year-old high school student who is drawn into an ancient battle between fallen angels and immortals after she befriends a new student. The screenplay is written by Monet Clayton, and production is slated to begin later this year.

Both films are scheduled for launch on Paramount+ in 2022, and they’ll be overseen by Nickelodeon and Awesomeness Films Studio head Syrinthia Studer.

Nickelodeon has also greenlit a new live-action/animated Blue’s Clues movie to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the franchise’s TV series (pictured). It will follow host Josh and Blue as they head to New York City to audition for a Broadway musical. Matt Stawski is directing the untitled film, which is to be written by Angela Santomero and Liz Maccie. Nickelodeon Movies SVP Darlene Caamaño Loquet will oversee production on the film at Nickelodeon Animation Studio this summer.

Nickelodeon also recently announced an animated Avatar film that will begin production this year and a live-action adaptation of The Fairly OddParents. And ViacomCBS is planning to release a Clifford the Big Red Dog movie on Paramount+ in 2022.
