Nickelodeon is adding another tentpole property to its rapidly growing feature film slate.

The ViacomCBS-owned kidsnet is developing the first-ever Baby Shark animated movie, building on its existing content and global licensing partnership with SmartStudy, the parentco of Baby Shark IP owner Pinkfong.

Though it doesn’t have a title yet, the movie will be co-produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio and SmartStudy. Further details—including the film’s plot, demographic, creative team and distribution strategy—will be announced in the coming months, according to Nickelodeon.

Movies have become increasingly important to Nick’s content strategy of late, as global demand for long-form animation continues to grow. Last week, the kidsnet put three new features into production, including a live-action/animated Blue’s Clues movie. An animated Avatar pic is also in the works this year, as well as a live-action/animated feature adaptation of The Fairly OddParents.

In related Baby Shark news, Nick has greenlit a second season of its Emmy-nominated preschool series Baby Shark’s Big Show! (pictured). A premiere date hasn’t been announced yet, but Nick will begin airing episodes from the new 26 x half-hour season in the US this summer, followed by international launches later in the year.

On the consumer products side of Nick’s Baby Shark business, new ranges in categories including apparel, home, food & beverage and toys will be rolling out at US retailers next month, and internationally in the fall. ViacomCBS Consumer Products manages worldwide licensing for the IP, excluding China, Korea and Southeast Asia.
