After a week of speculation, Brian Robbins has officially been named the president and CEO of Paramount Pictures, effective immediately. Jim Gianopulos, the movie studio’s current chairman and CEO, is stepping down and will serve in an advisory role through to the end of the year.

Robbins will continue to serve as president of Nickelodeon and chief content officer of kids and families for Paramount+, and he now also oversees all films produced for Paramount+. Since joining Nickelodeon in 2018, Robbins has spearheaded the kidsnet’s shift to focus on franchises such as PAW Patrol, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and SpongeBob SquarePants, which have been major drivers of new subscribers for the streaming service, according to ViacomCBS. These IPs also account for a dougle-digit share of total streams on the platform.

Robbins isn’t new to Paramount—before joining Nickelodeon, he was president of the Paramount Players division. He also co-founded Awesomeness in 2012, serving as its CEO for four years.

In addition to expanding Robbins’ remit, ViacomCBS announced that all of its premium content will be made by Paramount Television Studios (PTVS) under the leadership of Showtime chairman and CEO David Nevins, who will continue to serve as chief content officer of scripted originals for Paramount+. Reporting to Nevins, Nicole Clemens will oversee PTVS as president, in addition to her president of original scripted series role.
