Sesame Workshop is expanding its racial justice initiative with See Us Coming Together: A Sesame Street Special. This new one-off celebrates the diversity of Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities, and will premiere on November 25 across platforms including Cartoonito on HBO Max, PBS KIDS, and Sesame’s YouTube, Facebook and Instagram channels.

See Us Coming Together will also mark the introduction of a new Sesame Street Muppet—performed by Sesame Workshop puppeteer Kathleen Kim, seven-year-old Korean American Ji-Young is the star of the special and talks to celebrity guests like Simu Liu, Naomi Osaka and Padma Lakshmi about anti-Asian racism.

A viewing guide and companion activities will be available online ahead of the launch to provide kids and families with the tools they need to have conversations about discrimination on their own.

See Us Coming Together will also include a new original song with the same title. Led by Ji-Young and performed by the full cast, it’s a reimagined version of Sesame Street classic “The People in Your Neighborhood.”

Supported by The Asian American Foundation, The Ford Foundation and P&G/Pampers, this project comes in the wake of a significant increase in violent attacks against the API community, an issue that Sesame Workshop previously addressed through its “ABCs of Racial Literacy” content package.
