MIPTV 2022 returns to in-person format

After a two-year pause, the annual TV market heads back to the Palais next April.

On the heels of an in-person MIPCOM, event organizer RX France will move forward with MIPTV as a live event in 2022.

The 59th annual global market will be hosted in Cannes from April 4 to 6 next year, introducing a reformatted three-day schedule that rolls MIP Formats and MIP Doc into the main MIPTV program, and presents all three at the Palais des Festivals.

For 2022, MIPTV will also feature a new layout with an updated exhibition floor plan and flexible meeting spaces at the Palais in the hopes of supporting what RX France calls “a more engaging and holistic business environment.”

The company was motivated to make this move back to a live event format after the success of MIPCOM earlier this fall, according to a release. MIPCOM was the first major market to be staged in person since the pandemic began, and according to RX France, it welcomed more than 4,500 delegates (including 1,200 buyers) and featured 145 stands for companies from 35 countries.

The spring event will run with COVID-19 safety measures similar to ones implemented at MIPCOM. In addition to mandatory masks, the fall event’s delegates were required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination, a negative test or immunity due to a prior infection.

This will mark the first MIPTV held on site in two years: The 2020 edition was cancelled as an in-person event due to COVID-19, and the 2021 conference was held digitally from April 12 to 16 due to continued uncertainty related to the pandemic.

There was no information at press time about whether there would also be a digital component to the spring event.
